My collection was inspired by the process of coral bleaching. Coral bleaching is largely a result of raising ocean temperature due to global warming/pollution. When the ocean temperature rise the algae, which gives the coral it's stunning color, leaves the coral. If the temperatures remain too warm for an extended period of time the coral will in turn die.

 

Although my collection is inspired by a somber topic I still wanted it to celebrate and show the extraordinary beauty and playful feel of the coral reef ecosystem. The 6 looks that I designed depict the gradual takeover of coral bleaching and highlight the stark contrast between the healthy and bleached coral.

To really highlight the bold contrast of my inspiration I decided to design and have my own textile digitally printed for my collection.
